This section details our mission to advance justice and equity in Sierra Leone, outlining the core values and principles that guide our efforts and community-focused initiatives.
Championing Justice in Sierra Leone
Advocate for Social Justice and Development ASJD is an established Institution that shares the same aspirations and strategies of UNDP: to advocate for a just world where natural resources will be well distributed among its inhabitants as well as envisaging a violent free society, where social justice, sustainable peace and development is a way of life regardless of age, gender, political, religious and socioeconomic status.
The Organization is committed to enhancing the capacities of vulnerable groups of persons in rural communities to enable them take the lead in promoting both their personal and collective development through economic empowerment, advocacy, collaboration, research, skills development etc.. in a bid to promote access to social justice for all.
It was against this backdrop that ASJD-SL was formed in 2002 with its flagship program called skills promotion scheme as an empowerment especially for girls through livelihood for its beneficiaries to focus on future engagements. It established an institution in other to build the capacity of semiliterate and illiterate young girls/women and male youths who could not attend school due to the 10 years war.
The scheme caters for acquiring the desired skills through theoretical and practical aspects: after graduation; formed into groups for the skills to be fully applied through business entrepreneurship especially for self-employment and also seek for formal employment to commercial houses.
